Server 2008 not going anywhere for now. It going to be like Vista. The best combination so far is Server 2003 and XP.

Windows 7 now our and it is not doing bad so far. lets see where it will end up. Currently i'm using it and it is like a revised Vista that runs like XP. I like it so far

young star let me give you a bit more light on the matter....Windows Server 2008 can also be installed as a Server Core
installation, which is a cut-down version of Windows without the
Windows Explorer GUI.

There is no Windows Explorer to
provide the GUI interface that you are used to, so you configure
everything through the command line interface or remotely using a
Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

The Server Core can be used for
dedicated machines with basic roles such as Domain controller/Active
Directory Domain Services, DNS Server, DHCP Server, file server, print
server, Windows Media Server, IIS 7 web server and Windows Server
Virtualization virtual server

In my opinion, this is a simulation of ubuntu server...you gotta do much of the config thru console or unless you manually install a GUI which is in itself a higher level of security and means more resources for usage...Kraazee...you can try it. I can get you am official copy from microsoft (i.e. eval copy  :xd: )
